About Kellie

“Photography is very much a part of who I am.

When I was a child, weekends would be spent with friends or my little sister, applying make-up, carefully selecting outfits from the cupboard and finding flowers in the garden that we could pose by. Back then we were using Mum’s bright red Kodak camera that took 110 film. We would then have to wait sometimes months before we could get the film developed and it was like Christmas every single time! Sometimes, it had been so long that we had forgotten what we had even taken photo’s off.

As we would look at each imperfect image we took, carefully holding the photograph on the corners so we didn’t put finger prints on the emulsion, smiles and laughter would come across our faces and we were reminded instantly of the fun we had on that day.

Nights on the farm in front of the fireplace, we quite often pulled out the bottom draw of the wall unit that contained albums and boxes of loose images and we would spend hours, carefully flicking through. It could take all night sometimes, but every image that was in front of us was like a key to unlocking everything we felt, everything that happened on the day the photo was taken. Even sometimes it would envoke memories of events that surrounded that era of our lives. Like Mum cherishing an image of us at a service station, because it was the last time we saw our uncle before he died.

My love for documenting became something that was a part of me because I love, that just like a song, a tatty worn down photograph held in your hand can make you remember something that was said to you, a smell, a feeling or special people. Without these gentle reminders, our minds will sometimes forget. A single image can tell you so many stories about your life.”
